The Indian cricket was left mourning on Tuesday, 13th February, when the longest-living Test cricketer Dattajirao Gaekwad breathed his last at his Baroda residence after fighting with age-related ailments. One of the greats of the game, Gaekwad passed away at the age of 95 and represented India in 11 Test matches in a span of nine years.
He played as a batter in his cricketing career but bowled leg-spin as well as medium pace, providing variations. Dattajirao represented his state Baroda for most of his career and played 110 first-class games, accumulating 5788 runs alongside scalping 25 wickets. He made his debut for the Indian Test team against England in Leeds during their tour of 1952.
While his demise came as a shocking news, Board of Control for Cricket in India along with other members of the cricketing fraternity poured in their condolences.

It is to be noted that Dattajirao Gaekwad also led the Indian Test team on the England tour of 1959 where India lost all five matches and faced a clean sweep. He bid adieu to international cricket in January 1961 against arch-rivals Pakistan in Chennai.
