The 36th edition of the National Games is scheduled to take place from September 27 to October 10 in six cities of Gujarat. Ahead of the Games, the Indian Olympic Association has asked the National Sports Federations and state Olympic associations to ensure the participation of top athletes from the International events.

Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and Bhavnagar are the six venues for the upcoming National Games 2022.

"To ensure the esteemed significance of the National Games, participation of all eligible eminent athletes who have taken part/won medals in the International Games and Championships are necessary to compete in the 36th National Games," the IOA said in a letter to all the NSFs and state Olympic associations as reported by PTI.

IOS secretary general Rajeev Mehta wrote in the letter, "The Sports Federations and State Olympic Associations are requested to keep this in mind when selecting the athletes for representing their sports and States.  As far as the athletes are concerned, participation in the  National Games is most important for them.  I have asked the NSFs and they will reply who among the top athletes are available or not. We will see after that."

For the first time in National Games, indigenous sports Mallakhamb and Yogasana are also included in the competition, which is expected to feature 7000 athletes from all over India participating across 36 events.
