Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma has surpassed CSK skipper MS Dhoni to become the highest earner in the history of the Indian Premier League. While the 16th edition of the IPL 2023 is just a few months away and deserving players have already secured remunerative deals with the IPL franchises, a fresh report has listed out ten players who have been the highest earners in the history of the league.
According to the Moneyball report, the two most successful captains of the league are among the two highest earners in IPL history. While Rohit Sharma has led Mumbai Indians to the most IPL titles (5), his earnings have also surpassed every other player in the tournament. His IPL earnings are Rs. 178.6 crore in total as per Moneyball.
Notably, Rohit joined Mumbai Indians in 2011, and played a crucial role at the top order for the franchise. Rohit Sharma was handed the captaincy in 2013 and guided the franchise to its first IPL title in the year. Not just that, but Rohit also guided Mumbai Indians to the Champions League title in the same year. Since then, his legacy grew in the tournament as he won titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020.
Meanwhile, MS Dhoni, who has led Chennai Super Kings right from the inception of the league, and was the most expensive player during the inaugural auction, has earned Rs. 176.84 crores from IPL.
Former Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli is third on the list with earnings of Rs. 173.2 crores.
