The five-time champions Chennai Super Kings didn’t get a good start in their first week in IPL 2025. After winning theiir first match against arch-rivals Mumbai Indians, CSK went on to lose back-to-back match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru respectively. They lost against RCB at Chepauk after 17 years and failed to chase 183 runs against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati. Former cricketer Ambati Rayudu, who was a part of CSK’s title triumphs in 2018 and 2023, expressed his disappointment after franchise’s performance in IPL 2025 so far.

CSK suffered a big defeat by 50 runs against RCB at Chepauk while chasing 197 runs. In the next game against RR, CSK fell short of just six runs form the target suffering their second consecutive loss of the season. “Chennai Super Kings have never been known for their fielding — maybe in their earlier years — but what they’ve done in their first two matches this season has been quite poor. Dropping easy chances and struggling in the outfield — these are areas they need to address quickly. Some of CSK’s mistakes were quite painful to watch,” Ambati Rayudu said on JioHotstar.

They didn’t field well at all: Ambati Rayudu after CSK’s loss vs RR

Speaking further, Ambati Rayudu also reflected on CSK’ recent defeat against RR in Guwahati on Sunday. The former cricketer hailed RR for their fielding efforts and also said that CSK didn’t sso well while fielding.

“When you’re playing a close game, these one-percenters really matter. We saw quite a few incredible catches in this match—it’s rare to see that! On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings didn’t field well at all, except for maybe one or two stops in the infield. Rajasthan Royals were really up for it, and this shows that fielding is not just about having a young side—it’s about anticipation and awareness. Riyan Parag’s catch, when Shivam Dube was going strong, was a real game-changer,” Rayudu said.
