Chennai Super Kings completed a mega bidding war for New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell. The defending champions paid a massive price of INR 14 Crore as they beat the Punjab Kings to sign the Kiwi middle-order specialist. Mitchell had an incredible performance in the recent ODI World Cup 2023.

Playing at number for the Blackcaps, Daryl Mitchell scored a humongous 552 runs in nine innings at an average of 69.00. Mitchell has previously played in the IPL for the Rajasthan Royals in the 2022 season. But unlike the World Cup, Mitchell played just two games where he scored 33 runs while picking up no wickets.
Talking about Punjab Kings, the Preeti Zinta-owned franchise had moments before Mitchell paid a massive price of INR 11.75 crore for Indian fast bowler Harshal Patel. The Indian pacer had a sub-par IPL 2023 season with 14 wickets at an average of 32.42, 9.65 economy and a 20.14 strike rate.
Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings were seen bidding for both these players and ended up getting one each. Towards the end of this set, Punjab Kings also picked up England all-rounder Chris Woakes for a price of INR 4.2 Crore.
