Fans hailed Andre Russell as the ‘GOAT of KKR’ after his 64-off 25-run knock against SunRisers Hyderabad in the third clash of the Indian Premier League 2024. The 17th edition of the tournament began on March 22, when Chennai Super Kings locked horns with Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The reigning champions began their season by clinching a six-wicket win over their counterparts. On the second day of the season, the action shifted to Mullanpur and then to Kolkata.
In his first match as the SRH captain, Pat Cummins won the toss and invited the rivals to bat first. Kolkata began their innings explosively with Phil Salt registering another half-century of the season. While the middle order of the hosts failed miserably, Andre Russell played a brilliant knock of unbeaten 64 runs combined with seven maximums and three boundaries to guide the KKR’s score beyond the 200-run mark.
Russell continued his momentum in the second innings and displayed brilliant fielding prowess. Fans took to social media to laud him and hailed him as the ‘Greatest of All Time’.
