Match Preview

The 66th clash of the Indian Premier League will have SunRisers Hyderabad clashing against Gujarat Titans in one of their last league-stage games for the IPL 2024. The match is scheduled for May 16, Thursday, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. While this would be SRH’s second last game in the group stage, GT will play their last game of the season. The Titans, led by Shubman Gill, became the third team to get knocked out of the IPL 2024 after Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings after the clash against Kolkata Knight Riders on May 13, Monday.

Pitch Report

The Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium is known to have a flat surface and the pitch is known for helping the spinners. Ideally, the team that wins the toss should opt to field first considering the dew factor at the ground. During the clash against RR, commentators Graeme Swann and Sunil Gavaskar said, “It's a harder pitch, might be able to get a little more carry but this is a pitch where you can expect a lot of runs. What we have seen from the Hyderabad team is they have taken the initiative just about every time from the first ball.”

Team Analysis

SunRisers Hyderabad

SunRisers Hyderabad, who started off the season on a defeating note, went on to make a mark for themselves in the 2024 season. The team led by Pat Cummins broke several records and emerged as one of the most threatening teams in the tournament. By winning several games consecutively, SRH have almost confirmed their spot in the playoffs, and they will aim to secure it in the upcoming games.

Though SRH haven’t been able to perform to the best of their capabilities in the last few games, the 2016 winners would aim to gain back their lost momentum in the upcoming match. SRH have one of the most balanced squads, they would wish to make the most of it like the past games.

SunRisers Hyderabad IPL 2024 squad

Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen(w), Aiden Markram, Abdul Samad, Nitish Reddy, Shahbaz Ahmed, Pat Cummins(c), Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jaydev Unadkat, T Natarajan, Mayank Markande, Umran Malik, Anmolpreet Singh, Glenn Phillips, Rahul Tripathi, Washington Sundar, Upendra Yadav, Jhatavedh Subramanyan, Sanvir Singh, Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Marco Jansen, Akash Maharaj Singh, Mayank Agarwal

Gujarat Titans

Gujarat Titans, who won their first maiden IPL trophy in the year of their inception failed to make it to playoffs this year. The 2022 winners, who played two back-to-back finals, started on a victorious note and were looking promising under the captaincy of new skipper Shubman Gill. However, GT lost their momentum mid-season, and despite several efforts, it failed to leave an impact. No doubt GT displayed collective effort against CSK in the last game they played, but it didn’t prove to be of any use.

Titans got knocked out of the season, and while the forthcoming match wouldn’t change their fate in the current season, Gill and Co. would wish to end the bitter year on a sweet note.
