The highly anticipated IPL 2025 mega auction, which will decide the fate of 577 shortlisted players, is currently underway at the Abady Al Johar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. With just 204 slots up for grabs, including 70 overseas ones, only a select few out of 367 Indian and 210 overseas players will be picked by the Indian Premier League (IPL) teams for the 2025 season. R Ashwin, who is one of the sought-after Indian players in the mega auction, has been signed by CSK for INR 9.75 Cr.

Five-time champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) opened the bidding war for the veteran Indian all-rounder, but the Bengaluru-based franchise stepped out of the race whereas Rajasthan Royals joined in. With CSK still in the hunt, the Yellow Army secured his services for INR 9.75 Crore.

Ravichandran Ashwin's IPL career

After being released by Rajasthan Royals ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, R Ashwin registered himself for INR 2 Crore. The 38-year-old is known for his exceptional skills as an off-spinner and his cricketing intelligence. He can bowl effectively in both the powerplay and middle overs. The Tamil Nadu cricketer is also a handy batter in the lower middle order.

Ashwin started his IPL journey with Chennai Super Kings in 2008. He played for CSK until 2015 and was a key bowler for them. After CSK was banned, he played for Rising Pune Supergiants in 2016. Later, he moved to Kings XI Punjab and became their captain in 2018. In 2019, he became famous for mankading Jos Buttler. Ashwin then joined Delhi Capitals in 2020 before moving to Rajasthan Royals in 2022.

The bowling all-rounder has played a total of 212 matches for five teams in the IPL, taking 180 wickets with an economy rate of 7.12 and scoring 800 runs, including a half-century against Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022. Ashwin has won two IPL titles with CSK in 2010 and 2011.
