Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha has hinted at exiting Wolves in the upcoming summer transfer window during an exclusive interview ahead of the busy next couple of months till the end of the ongoing 2024-25 season. The 25-year-old spoke about how he has played his part in helping Wolves nearly achieve their goal of staying up in the Premier League, and now, he needs to take the next step in his career, wanting to “fight for the titles”.

Notably, the arrival of Matheus Cunha at Wolves happened in 2023 from Atletico Madrid when he was signed during Julen Lopetegui’s reign as manager, but his performances were far from his current level, scoring two goals in 20 matches while not being a main starter for the most of it. But then, after Gary O’Neil took over as Wolves manager at the start of the 2023-24 season, the Brazilian became a focal point of the attack.

Although Gary O’Neil departed at the conclusion of last year before being replaced in the manager role by Vitor Pereira, the ongoing 2024-25 season has been an exceptional one for Matheus Cunha as he has scored 13 goals for Wolves in their Premier League campaign. While speaking to the Guardian in an interview recently, the Brazilian spoke about staying put at Wolves despite getting offers from multiple clubs in the last winter window, including Arsenal, to show loyalty to them.

I want to fight for titles, for big things. I have potential: Matheus Cunha

He was quoted as saying, “I had a lot of offers but I wouldn’t feel well if I had done it. Some things you can’t control but I couldn’t leave the club in the middle of the season, in a difficult situation, in the relegation zone.”

After that, Matheus Cunha stated that since Wolves are now going to stay up in the Premier League next season, he is looking for bigger and better challenges in his career, which could give him the best opportunity to win trophies in his career. He said, “Now, we’re close to achieving our goal [of staying up]. But I’ve made it clear that I need to take the next step. I want to fight for titles, for big things. I have potential.”
