Emma Raducanu, the British tennis player, has withdrawn her name from the national team squad for the Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers, which will be played next week in the Netherlands. The 22-year-old has taken the tough decision in her bid to “look after her body” after going through a tough time at the Miami Open with her fitness, where she made the quarter-finals round last week.

Notably, Emma Raducanu has already played seven tournaments within the first three months of the new tennis season, which is the most for her during this time phase in her entire career. It was last week when she played a grueling three-set match against home favourite Jessica Pegula of America, losing to her but after needing to take a medical timeout in the second set.

She needs a little space in the calendar to best look after her body: Emma Raducanu's representative

With the aforementioned result, Emma Raducanu returned to the top 50 in the WTA Rankings after quite some time, and as per her representatives, the decision to withdraw from the Billie Jean King Cup was difficult for her. They were also quoted as saying on her behalf, as per BBC Sport, “She needs a little space in the calendar to best look after her body.”

Apart from deciding to not play in the Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers next week, she has also made herself unavailable for the Rouen Open from April 14 onwards, and with that there is no confirmation around when she will be playing competitive tennis next. It is understood that she is planning to have a training block for the next few weeks, to get ready for the next stage of the ongoing tennis season.
