The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has broken its silence on misleading reports that claimed that the 34-year-old is trying to move players to Goa instead of serving Mumbai in domestic cricket. Following opener Yashasvi Jaiswal’s exit from Mumbai, some reports surfaced that Suryakumar is also pondering to change his domestic side. Noting these claims, the right-handed batter, who is fulfilling his commitments in Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, called the claims baseless. With these developments, MCA was also expected to issue a statement soon on the incident that unfolded a couple of days ago.
Following Suryakumar’s remark, the MCA official Abhay Hadap released a statement and said, "The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is aware of rumours circulating on social media regarding Surya Kumar Yadav’s alleged decision to move players to Goa instead of playing for Mumbai."
Hadap also added that MCA had a conversation with Suryakumar on April 3 and the India T20 International (T20I) skipper assured his continued association with Mumbai for the future. "MCA officials have spoken with Surya this morning and can confirm that these rumours are completely baseless and untrue. Surya Kumar Yadav remains committed for Mumbai and takes immense pride in playing for Mumbai. We urge everyone to refrain from spreading misinformation and to support our players as they continue to contribute to Mumbai Cricket Association," remarked Hadap.
Suryakumar Yadav has looked impactful in MI’s ordinary campaign thus far
Suryakumar has looked effective with his bat for MI in IPL 2025. With 104 runs in three outings at an average of 52.00 and a strike rate of 165.07, he is the leading run-getter for the five-time champion team. MI will want their mainstay batter to continue his brilliant form and pound bowlers heavily in upcoming games.
Mumbai won their last game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by eight wickets at the Wankhede Stadium and bagged their first triumph in the season. They will look to be at their best against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Stadium on April 4.
