On Sunday, November 24, the first day of the IPL 2025 mega auction was an eventual affair from start to finish in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with Rishabh Pant becoming the most expensive player in league history as Lucknow Super Giants bought him for INR 27 Crore. At the Abady Al Johar Arena, Shreyas Iyer was initially the most expensive player in IPL with a successful bid of INR 26.75 Crore from Punjab Kings, but just a few minutes later, his Indian teammate Rishabh Pant surpassed him, to set the new league record.

The third most expensive player on the first day of the IPL 2025 mega auction was Venkatesh Iyer, who was bought back by Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 23.75 Crore to the shock of many. Arshdeep Singh wasn’t retained by Punjab Kings ahead of the auction, but despite that, they eventually bought him back for INR 18 Crore with an RTM, which became quite a hot topic on the social media platform X.

While a lot of players who got picked up by the teams on day one of the IPL 2025 mega auction, a few of them were left unsold, including the likes of David Warner, Jonny Bairstow, Devdutt Padikkal, and Yash Dhull. The nucleus of all the IPL teams for the next three seasons is starting to develop, but still, they have the second day at the auction, to complete the remaining pieces of the puzzle.
