The highly anticipated IPL 2025 mega auction, which will decide the fate of 577 shortlisted players, is currently underway at the Abady Al Johar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. With just 204 slots up for grabs, including 70 overseas ones, only a select few out of 367 Indian and 210 overseas players will be picked by the Indian Premier League (IPL) teams for the 2025 season. Rishabh Pant, who is one of the sought after Indian players in the mega auction, has been signed by Lucknow Super Ginats (LSG) for INR 27 Crore.
After being released by Delhi Capitals ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, a franchise he captained for multiple seasons in the league, Rishabh Pant registered himself for a base price of INR 2 Crore, following which the organising committee listed him in the first set of the six marquee players. The left-handed wicket-keeper is one of the most destructive batter in world cricket in the shortest format of the game, and his captaincy credentials at the IPL level are well known to everyone as well.
Rishabh Pant IPL career
In his IPL career, which began in 2016 with Delhi Capitals, Rishabh Pant made 111 appearances for the franchise, scoring 3284 runs at an average of 35.31 and a strike-rate of 148.93. Apart from 18 fifties, his only hundred in the IPL came in the 2018 season against Sunrisers Hyderabad, staying unbeaten on 128 off 63 with 15 fours and seven maximums, but still, Delhi Capitals ended up on the losing side on that night at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
The best finish for Delhi Capitals in the IPL during Rishabh Pant’s eight years at the franchise came in the 2020 season when they lost to Mumbai Indians in a one-sided final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The 27-year-old made his triumphant return to the IPL in the 2024 season after recovering from life-threatening injuries due to a car accident, which led to him missing the tournament last year.
