After a forgettable season last year, the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) will be hoping for a better outing in the upcoming season of Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2025. As Hardik Pandya is set to take on as a skipper for the second consecutive season, MI eye on their sixth title and are scheduled to face their biggest rivals and five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their opening match of IPL 2025 at M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on March 23.
It will be the 18th edition of the IPL which is set to begin with a match between Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Eden Gardens on March 23. Total 10 teams from different cities will lock horns to get their hands on the title on May 25. Total 74 matches will be played throughout the season including 70 matches in the league stages. The top four teams will qualify for the playoffs stage of the tournament. The first qualifier and the Eliminator will be played at Rajiv Gandhi Interational Stadium in Hyderabad on May 20 and 21 respectively, while the second qualifier is scheduled to be played in Kolkata on May 23 followed by the final at the same ground on May 25.
MI IPL 2025 Schedule
Mumbai Indians won their fifth IPL title in 2020 under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. After that, MI haven’t been able to dominate the league again and have qualified for the playoffs just once between 2021 to 2024. MI also took a big decision to make Hardik Pandya captain ahead of IPL 2024 replacing Rohit. However, it turned out to be an forgettable season as they finished last in the points table. Now, Hardik Pandya and MI will be looking to bring back their glory days in IPL 2025.

The five-time champions will face arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings in their opening match of the season in Chennai on March 23. Their first home match of the season will be against Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede Stadium on March 31. MI will end their league campaign against Delhi Capitals at Wankhede on May 15.
