Ambati Rayudu, the former player for Chennai Super Kings, took a brutal swipe at Royal Challengers Bengaluru after their defeat against Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2024 Eliminator. The 38-year-old, who was commentating live on the game for Star Sports, stated that an IPL trophy isn’t won by just beating CSK, it’s about doing well in the playoffs stage.
For the unversed, after winning the toss, Sanju Samson, the captain of Rajasthan Royals decided to field first, and his bowlers performed exceptionally well as a unit, to restrict Royal Challengers Bengaluru to a below-par total of 172/8. In the run chase, the RR batters weren’t quite at their best as a collective outfit, but they managed to get over the line with four wickets in hand and one over to spare.
Shortly after Royal Challengers Bengaluru were ousted from the IPL 2024, without winning the IPL trophy for 17 seasons in a row, Ambati Rayudu spoke about the team on the live broadcast for Star Sports. He said, “Sirf playoff mein pahunchne se IPL trophy nahi milti hai. Aapko khelna padta hai wohi hunger ke saath (You can’t get the trophy just by reaching the playoffs. You have to play with the hunger to do well).”
“Sirf CSK ko hara ke ye nahi socho ki aap IPL trophy jeet jaaoge. Agle saal phir se aana padega aapko (Don’t think that you can win the IPL trophy by just beating CSK. You have to return to the grind next year),” Ambati Rayudu added.
Here is the clip of Ambati Rayudu's brutal take on RCB's loss to RR in Eliminator:
Faf du Plessis, the captain of RCB, talked about his team’s performance against RR in the IPL 2024 Eliminator. He said, “With the dew coming, we felt we were short with the bat. Did think we were 20 runs shy of what was a good score. Credit to the boys - they fought really well. That's all you can ask for. If you look at naturally assessing the pitch and conditions, you would say it's a 180 pitch because it was swinging upfront and was quite slow.”
