Paras Mhambrey, the bowling coach of India, has talked about how dropping Mohammed Shami from playing XI in the Asia Cup hasn’t been easy for the team management. The 51-year-old was quick to state that the experienced fast bowler has given phenomenal performances for the country, in the build-up to the final Super Four stage match in the continental cricket tournament for India against Bangladesh at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

The preferred fast bowling attack of India in the Asia Cup 2023 has included the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur, and Hardik Pandya. With that, Mohammed Shami has only gotten one opportunity to play in the entire tournament against Nepal, when Jasprit Bumrah took a break for the birth of his first child.

Before turning his attention to Mohammed Shami, the Indian bowling coach Paras Mhambrey pointed out how happy the team management is, with the progress made by Jasprit Bumrah in regards to his fitness. He was quoted as saying by PTI, “We have been following Bumrah's progress from the NCA, and we are very happy with the report that we have got.”

“Now, we have four (fast) quality bowlers, and it is always great to have those options. The problem of plenty is always good,” he spoke about the fast bowling quartet of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur, and Mohammed Shami.

Paras Mhambrey also discussed the key matter of dropping Mohammed Shami from the playing XI of Team India in the Asia Cup and said, “It's not very easy to drop someone like Shami. The experience that he has and the performance that he has done for the country is phenomenal. It's never easy to have that kind of a conversation (dropping a player).”

“But we are clear in the way we have gone about the conversation with the players and they have shown confidence in us. Players know any decision that we take and they know that it is for the benefit of the team,” remarked the 51-year-old.
