Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian fast bowler, has made his return to the National Cricket Academy (NCA), now known as the Centre of Excellence (CoE), in Bengaluru, to get clearance to play for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. This visit comes more than a week after Jasprit Bumrah had previously been at the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) facility, to work on attaining full fitness with the IPl fast approaching.
Notably, the 31-year-old has been out of professional cricket for over two and a half months after suffering a back injury during the fifth and final Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test match between Australia and India at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) at the start of the year. Since then, he missed out on the limited-overs series at home against England before India’s victorious ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign in Dubai.
We have to wait and see what their feedback is on him: Jayawardene on Bumrah
As per the report from Cricbuzz, the recent NCA visit from Jasprit Bumrah could decide whether his availability to MI for the IPL 2025 will be either partial or full. Moreover, the Indian fast bowler had experienced some pain and discomfort while bowling in the nets at the NCA the last time he was there to prove his fitness ahead of the IPL, and following that, he was advised some exercises apart from returning there at a later date.
It is expected that Jasprit Bumrah might miss out on playing two-three games for MI at the start of the IPL 2025 season if he needs around a week to attain full recovery. Mahela Jayawardene, the head coach of MI, was quoted as saying on the matter recently, “He just started that progress. We have to wait and see what their feedback is on him. At the moment, everything is going well but obviously, it is on a day-to-day basis, the progress. He is in good spirits and hopefully, he can join the team sooner.”
“Obviously, not having him is a challenge. He is one of the best bowlers in the world and he has been a fantastic pro for us for many years,” he added.
