The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah is likely to be the board’s representative at the International Cricket Council (ICC). Although BCCI’s new President Roger Binny is also tipped to attend the ICC’s Annual Meeting in Melbourne, Shah will be the Indian cricket board’s representative. Meanwhile, the board’s ex-president, Sourav Ganguly, is set to continue as the head of the ICC Cricket Committee.

Notably, BCCI’s representative in the all-powerful ICC Board is likely to head the Finance and Commercial Affairs (F&CA) committee of the global cricket body. The F&CA committee is considered the most important of all the subsidiary committees of ICC. For some years BCCI representatives weren’t a part of it till former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly became its member.

The F&CA committee decides on ICC’s annual budget and is also the committee that determines the revenue-sharing model, sponsorship and various rights deals for a particular cycle.

“If Jay is representing the BCCI in the ICC Board, then he will automatically be part of F&CA committee. But India has not been heading the F&CA for a long time and it’s BCCI’s turn to head the committee,” an ICC insider privy to the development told PTI. Jay Shah is expected to reach Melbourne in a couple of days for the global cricket body’s annual meeting.

The newly elected BCCI President Roger Binny and IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal are also expected to reach Australia to watch the T20 World Cup proceedings. BCCI’s representative at the ICC Chief Executives Committee (CEC) meeting will be interesting to watch. As per the convention, Jay Shah should sit in the CEC while Roger Binny should attend the ICC Board meeting.

Talking about the ICC Chairman, BCCI has cleared its stance saying they will back the current Chairman Greg Barclay of New Zealand. And Barclay looks like the frontrunner to continue at the helm. However, there has been a second nomination also filed. Although it’s not disclosed, PTI claims it is either Zimbabwe Cricket Board Chief Tevengwa Mukhulani or Singapore’s Imran Khwaja.
