Indian tennis player Karman Kaur Thandi won the second ITF W60 event of her career by winning the W60 in Evansville. Thandi, who is ranked 210 in the world, beat Ukrainian opponent Yulia Starodubtseva, who is ranked 246 in the world, in the final to clinch the title. With this, the Indian tennis player has secured a 2023 US Open qualifying spot.
Thandi beat Ukraine’s fourth seeded Yulia Starodubtseva 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 to secure her UP Open qualifying spot. She also won last year’s edition, though she suffered a defeat in the final of the W60 ITF event in June this year by Starodubtseva. Thandi won the single’s event and earned a prize sum of USD 60,000.
The two exchanged breaks early and the series was back and forth. But Thandi pulled together a string of impressive performances by winning a five-set thriller on the bounce, thus winning the event.

The 25-year-old has become the first Indian woman to win a pro title in the US since Sania Mirza. Rightly, she is jubilant with her victory and shared her happiness on Twitter.
With this win, T handi has secured a place in the qualifiers and will have to win three rounds to qualify for the Grand Slam as she is ranked outside the top 104 players in the world.

The US Open 2023 will begin on August 28 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, New York.
