22-year-old youngster Karthik Meiyappan has drawn all attention by picking a hat-trick against the Asia Cup champions Sri Lanka in 2022 T20 World Cup today. Karthik Meiyappan became 5th player to take a hat-trick in T20 WC after Brett Lee, Curtis Campher, Wanindu Hasaranga and Kagiso Rabada. He has become the first player from associate nations to take a hat-trick in T20 World Cup and here in this article we will take an overview about him as player.

The Chennai-born Karthik Meiyappan permanently shifted to Dubai in 2012. He started his career playing for UAE U-19 team in 2018 and later made his international debut in Dec 2019. Karthik Meiyappan in 2018 U-19 Asia Cup picked 4 wickets from 3 matches with best bowling figures of 2/39. Later in 2019 U-19 Asia Cup, he captained UAE team and finally on Dec 2019 he made his ODI debut.
Karthik Meiyappan was also part of UAE squad in 2020 U-19 T20 WC and in December 2020 he became one of 10 cricketers to be awarded a long part-time contract with Emirates Cricket Board.
In Oct 2021, he made his T20I debut as he was named in 2021 Summer T20 Bash tournament where five teams played (Ireland, Namibia, P.N.G, Scotland and UAE) and later just in his 2nd match in T20 WC he went on to register a hat-trick against Sri Lanka by dismissing Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Charith Asalanka and Dasun Shanaka.
