Mumbai skipper Shreyas Iyer came out to bat at No. 9 and played a heroic knock to guide his side to a three-wicket win against Hyderabad in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25. The game saw Hyderabad suffering a massive batting collapse, and managed to post a below-par target of 170 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium Ground B in Ahmedabad on Monday, December 23. However, things didn’t turn out to be favourable for Mumbai as the Iyer-led side found themselves reeling on 67 for 6 in the 13th over.
Iyer, instead of coming out to bat after the fall of first two wickets, walked out later and sent in bowling all-rounders and lower-order batters. The batting order shuffle led to Hardik Tamore, Suryansh Shedge, Atharva Ankolekar, Shardul Thakur and Tanush Kotian coming in to bat before him and T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav. However, Iyer’s strategies soon backfired as Mumbai were soon reduced to 67 for 6. Not only this, but Suryakumar Yadav also couldn’t do much, and was forced to walk back after scoring eight 18 runs.
