The player has not played since last year’s Miami Open, retiring due to a variety of factors including fatigue, and injury. While Anderson is set to play in his first tournament since retirement, the player hopes to continue his career and play in more tournaments in the future following the ATP 250. The Infosys Hall of Fame Open has previously seen participation from players such as four-time World Champion John Isner, Tommy Paul, Christopher Eubanks and Maxime Cressy.
“When I retired, it was tough. I was dealing with a lot of physical pain. Just a lot of parts of the body were really making it difficult to compete the way I wanted to, but also emotionally and mentally it was very challenging and I felt like I needed to stop playing,” Anderson said following his retirement. The 37-year-old now says that he is feeling “much better,” and that “what I was doing with the tennis ball was really exciting to me and made me want to challenge myself again. I didn’t know if I’d have that opportunity but fortunately Newport has given me one, so I wanted to go out there and play again.”
Anderson has won four ATP Tour level tournaments and is a two-time Grand Slam finalist. He is also known for being ranked in the top 5 in July of 2018. He will be competing in the Hall of Fame Open which is set to kick off on July 17. It will be the 47th edition of the tournament, and part of the 2023 ATP Tour 250 series.
