After India’s dominating batting display on Day 2 of the ongoing first Test against England, the hosts were bundled out early on Day 3, taking a 190-run lead. While Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, all breached the 80-rrun mark, Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma were dismissed at the score of 23 and 24 respectively. While Gill struggled to score runs, he was amidst criticism.

Former England skipper Kevin Pietersen, who is India as a part of the commentary panel was critical of the Gill’s approach. He emphasised on the importance of rotating the strike in Test cricket.

However ahead of Day 3’s play, Pietersen revealed the chat he had with Rahul Dravid with Gill’s approach. The former England cricketer added that he discussed on how to take the positive approach with the bat. “We discussed batting in India again. Just reacquainting what the positive options are, and also you know, you sometimes get caught up in what the opposition is doing and you sometimes forget about how good you are,” Pietersen said on Star Sports ahead of Day 3 of first Test against Hyderabad.
“In life, you have got to trust what you do, it was nice to spend time with someone who was so good and helped me in my career. Yesterday I was critical of Gill and I was praising KL Rahul and it's just about understanding players and their ability. It is always nice to speak to somebody of the stature and is doing so well for Team India,” he further added.
