Kieron Pollard, who is known for his big hitting exploits, may not be an active West Indies cricketer, but has featured for several teams in T20 franchise cricket. Recently he is plying his trade for Trinbago Knight Riders in 2024 edition of Caribbean Premier League (CPL). However, the West Indies international might have called down curtains in Indian Premier League (IPL), his recent performance has fans coming out to speak of his return to cash-rich league.
Seeing Pollard, who scored a 19-ball fifty during Trinbago Knight Riders’ four wicket win against Saint Lucia Kings on September 10 at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Gros Islet, fans have come up to speak of his return in the Mumbai-based franchise, the Mumbai Indians.
The 37-year-old unleashed carnage, scoring an unbeaten 52 off 19 deliveries, leaving fans taking to social media to recall his golden days. Pollard during his knock, raced to 28 off 13 balls and turned on his beast mode, smoking his fellow Caribbean, Matthew Forde for four sixes and helping the side register a comfortable win.

Seeing this, some fans took to X (formerly called Twitter) to speak of his ability to still finish the game in style. Whereas a few others claimed that he should come out of retirement and play for five-time champions, the Mumbai Indians. It is to be noted that the Hardik Pandya-led side has been struggling lately as they finished last in the points table in IPL 2024. However, under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy last in IPL 2023, the franchise finished at fourth place in the league stage and were then knocked out after losing the Qualifier 2 against Gujarat Titans by 62 runs.

Kieron Pollard retired from IPL in 2022
The 37-year-old former West Indies international, Kieron Pollard announced retirement from IPL in November 2022. Known to be one of the pillars of the franchise, the hard-hitter hung his boots after completing 13 seasons with MI. Pollard signed for MI in 2010 and since then proved to be one of the greatest of the generation, clinching five IPL titles and two Champions League title with the blue and the gold.
However, soon after his IPL retirement, he was appointed as their batting coach and continues to serve at that post till now. Pollard made his intentions clear to continue with the franchise as he said, “Once an MI always an MI”.
