During the first day of the second Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test match between Australia and India, the fans at the Adelaide Oval were spotted teasing Mitchell Starc about his former IPL franchise by chanting “KKR, KKR,” from the grandstand. In response, the Australian fast bowler, who broke the back of the Indian batting lineup in the second Test, politely gestured about the amount of money he earned from his contract with Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season.
Notably, in the Adelaide Test, Mitchell Starc began the proceedings in style, picking up the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal on the first ball of the match, trapping him in front of the stumps without troubling the scorers. He returned in the latter half of the first session, to pick up the key wickets of in-form KL Rahul 37(64) and Virat Kohli 7(8), to bring Australia back into the contest after a good partnership for the second wicket for India.

During the second session’s play, Mitchell Starc cleaned-up the lower half of the Indian batting lineup, to bundle them out for 180 runs in 44.1 overs, while registering the best bowling figures of 6/48 in his Test career. While the Indian first innings was going on, Mitchell Starc had a unique interaction with the fans, who were reminding him about his departure from KKR in the IPL, where he earned a whopping salary of INR 24.75 Crore, and the retort from the Aussie was just as classy as he gestured them about money in the bank.
