The match number 19 of the upcoming IPL 2025 between Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants has now been shifted to Guwahati. The match was scheduled to be played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on April 6. Now, the date will remain the same but the match is set to be played at Barsapara stadium in Guwahati. The decision has been taken by considering the heavy security deployment across the city on the occasion of Ram Navmi.
Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president, Snehasih Ganguly said that the Kolkata police wouldn’t be able to provide adequate security for the IPL 2025 clash, as more than 20000 processions are expected to take place across West Bengal that day. With Kolkata being the state capital, lots of chaos is expected on the city.
No scope for rescheduling the game in the city later: Snehasish Ganguly
CAB president Snehasish Ganuguly said that there was no chance of rescheduling the match against Lucknow Super Giants later in Kolkata. After that, the BCCI decided to shift the match to Guwahati with no alternative date available throughout the IPL 2025 season. Notably, the Barsapara stadium in Guwahati is also a second home ground to Rajasthan Royals after the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. RR are also scheduled to play two matches at this ground in IPL 2025.
"We have informed the BCCI to reschedule the match, but there is no scope for rescheduling the game in the city later and I'm now hearing that it's going to be shifted to Guwahati," Snehasish Ganguly was quoted as saying by the Free Press Journal.
KKR are also set to play the opening match of IPL 2025 as they will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on March 22.
