On Monday, November 25, following the conclusion of the two-day Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Delhi Capitals (DC) completed their squad of 22 players, including seven overseas signing. After retaining Axar Patel (INR 16.50 Cr), Kuldeep Yadav (INR 13.25 Cr), Tristan Stubbs (INR 10 Cr) and Abishek Porel (INR 4 Cr), the side roped in the services of Indian wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul after letting go off Rishabh Pant.
Although the team fought hard to retain Pant by exercising their Right To Match card on the auction table, but could not secure his services with the Indian wicketkeeper-batter bagging record INR 27 Crore deal from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). However, in KL Rahul, they got a like-for-like replacement, who could also take up the leadership role with the Capitals.
Parth Jindal hints at KL Rahul taking up leadership role in Delhi Capitals
However, the franchise is yet to announce their skipper for the upcoming edition of the cash-rich league, Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal hinted at KL Rahul or Axar Patel best suitable for the role. “We are looking for stability in the top order, someone with experience who can build the innings. And I think KL Rahul, given his record in the IPL, he’s someone who’s consistently given more than 400 runs every season. I think with the Kotla wicket, it is going to suit his game. We’re excited to have him,” Parth Jindal said after the conclusion of mega auction in Jeddah.
“We have very young batting lineup. Both KL Rahul and Axar Patel are going to lead them and are going to guide them. KL’s batting and experience will be a vital cog in the wheel,” he further elaborated.
