There have been news around Hardik Pandya’s infamous departure to Mumbai Indians and his sudden appointment as the franchise skipper for the 2024 edition of the tournament. While some have claimed that there were talks and then the Indian all-rounder was appointed as the skipper of the side, several cricketers have also spoken indirectly about this move.
Off late, star Indian pacer Mohammed Shami grabbed the limelight for his comments made on Hardik’s departure to MI. The 33-year-old feels that this wouldn’t impact the franchise. “Kisiko kisi ke jana se koi farak nahi padta (no one cares about anyone (Hardik Pandya) leaving the franchise. Hardik wanted to leave and he left. He did well as a captain as Gujarat made it to the final twice and also won the title once. He wasn’t tied up to Gujarat for lifetime,” Shami told Sports24.
However, the Gujarat-based franchise have appointed Shubman Gill as their skipper for IPL 2024, and the veteran pacer feels that one has to accept the changes. Shami further added it would be absolutely okay if Gill looks to move elsewhere in the future.
“Shubman Gill will also become experience and there is a possibility of him playing for another franchise in the future. You can’t stop anyone as it is part and parcel of the game,” he added.
