In the 2021-22 season, the Lakers managed the 11th place in the Western Conference standings with a 33-49 record and this season has been worse for the Purple and Gold side as they are currently placed at the 13th spot in the WC points table with a 26-32 record.
This season, James and Davis had injury troubles while their pre season signings like Patrick Beverley, Kendrick Nunn among others failed to make a strong impact as expected and were traded in February. Davis has missed 24 games this season due to injuries and the 38-year-old James had to increase his workload.
Apart from this, the 29-year-old's cold reaction on LeBron James breaking the all-time scoring record in the NBA also raised eyes of many. According to renowned Fox Sports US podcaster Colin Cowherd, "LeBron and his camp have been frustrated by how many minutes he has to play."
While talking on The Herd, Cowherd said, "They can’t depend on Anthony Davis. They are also mad that Darvin Ham (Lakers coach) is not keeping the pressure on Anthony Davis … I talked to an NBA source who I’ve known for a long tie, he said the Dallas Mavericks and Anthony Davis, keep your eye on it."
While AD's $193 million contract with the Lakers will end in 2025, however, the 6-foot-10 forward can terminate his contract in 2024. On the other hand, Dallas Mavericks have recently signed star guard Kyrie Irving from the Brooklyn Nets to boost their chances to win the title this year.
This season, LeBron James is averaging 30.2 points, 7 assists, 8.5 rebounds per game in his 19th season while Anthony Davis has registered 25.9 ppg, 2.4 apg and 12.4 rpg in his 34 appearances so far this season.
