Argentine football superstar Lionel Messi is set to make his Inter Miami return before the 2024 season of the Major League Soccer (MLS) comes to a close. The head coach of Inter Miami, Tata Martino, confirmed that Lionel Messi’s recovery from ankle injury is going well, and he will feature in at least one of the nine remaining regular season matches for the American club.
Notably, Lionel Messi had suffered a high-ankle injury during the final of the Copa America, which Argentina won after defeating Colombia 1-0 in extra time on July 14. Since then, Lionel Messi hasn’t played any competitive football, while his last appearance for Inter Miami came on June 1.
He is feeling better and better: Tata Martino on Lionel Messi
During a recent press conference, Tata Martino addressed the Lionel Messi injury situation and said, per ESPN, “I wouldn't be able to give an approximate number of days that he returns to training, but it is not a situation that is too far away. There is a part of the injuries that have to do with the physical and there is a part of the injuries that has to do with the mental, so we have to overcome them both ways and I think that he is going through that process.”
“He is feeling better and better. He has been working in the field for three or four days now. We cannot give time because we do not know and it would be speculating about something that may not be possible to do, but it is close,” Inter Miami head coach added.
Moreover, in the recent MLS game last night, Inter Miami defeated FC Cincinnati 2-0, with a brace from Luis Suarez, to take an eight-point lead in the Eastern Conference league standings.
