The 2019 World Cup runners-up, New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka by five wickets with 160 balls remaining and solidified their chances to qualify for the CWC 2023 semi-final. With their dominant win against the Island nation on Thursday, Pakistan's hopes for semi-final qualification are practically destroyed and former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram has a humourous take on the Men in Green's qualification scenario.
Following New Zealand's win against Sri Lanka, Pakistan will now have to win by at least 287 runs while batting first or they will have to chase the target in 2.3 overs. Both scenarios seemed to be impossible, which prompted Wasim Akram to make a humorous remark.
While talking on ASports alongside Wasim Akram, Shoaib Malik, and Misbah-ul-Haq, journalist Hamid Mir revealed Akram's idea on Pakistan's qualification and said, " Pakistan should bat first against England and post runs, then lock the England team in the dressing room and get them timed out," which left everyone in splits.

Pakistan entered the CWC 2023 as one of the favourites to lift the trophy, however, their dismal performance placed them in the current situation. The Men in Green will take on the defending champions, England, in their final group-stage fixture in the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 on Saturday, November 11. The match between these two World Cup-winning nations will take place at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
