The Los Angeles Dodgers eliminated the New York Mets from the MLB (Major League Baseball) World Series contention after securing a 4-2 win in the National League Championship Series. The Game 6 of the series saw the Dodgers beat the Mets 10-5 at the Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles with Tommy Edman and Will Smith each hit two-run home runs, to ensure that their team secured fourth World Series berth in the last eight seasons, where they will be facing the New York Yankees for the 12th time.
Earlier, the New York Yankees got the better of the Cleveland Guardians 4-1 in the American League Championship Series after winning the Game 5 with a scoreline of 5-2. The Yankees will be making their first appearance in the World Series after their 2009 triumph, and as per the odds, the Dodgers are favourites to win the best-of-seven series, which will begin on Friday, October 25, in Los Angeles.
There will be celebrations, and we deserve this win: Dodgers' manager Dave Roberts
The Dodgers' path to reaching the World Series was quite challenging. To get here, they needed all 26 players on the roster and three bullpen games. Tommy Edman, a utility man, was one such player. In Game 6 of the National League Championship Series, Edman proved his skill by knocking four runs as the Dodgers won their 22nd pennant in franchise history, defeating the New York Mets 10-5.
Edman after winning the game, said, "This is what you always dream about as a little kid. I get to play in the World Series, and I get to play in it for the Dodgers against the Yankees. It's pretty surreal." Yankees, on the other hand, would try their best to avoid the same fate as Mets after getting by the Guardians. Cleveland did its best to keep the game on, but New York stunned everyone with a 4-1 series win.
"We're going to celebrate tonight, as we should," said Dodgers' manager Dave Roberts said post-game. "But after that, I think the whole world was looking forward to this potential matchup between the Yankees and the Dodgers, this showdown," he added. Moreover, the New York Yankees are 8-3 in head-to-head reocrd against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the MLB World Series, and they won it last time way back in 2009. For Dodgers the final would be a great attacking game as their Japanese star player Shohei Ohtani who created baseball history last month, will be playing his first World Series.
