Pakistani batter Iftikhar Ahmed hasn’t been in great form from the last few months. He was once a reliable middle-order batter for Pakistan, but failed to make an impact in the last few tournaments. He couldn’t have a great outing in the 2023 ODI World Cup, and he also failed to deliver in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Now, his career is in jeopardy after multiple failures in international cricket.
Recently, a video clip of an interview went viral where Iftikhar Ahmed answers about his struggles while batting in the middle-order. The video is anticipated to be from a training camp of Wolves ahead of the Champions One-Day Cup in Pakistan. Ahmed said that he is not a middle-order batsman but a tailender when questioned by a journalist about his value to the national team.
"Main middle order ka player nhi hu, main tailender hu. Jo middle order ka player ya all-rounder hota hai wo 4 ya 5 pe khelta hai par main 7-8 pe khelta hu isliye main tailender hu (I am not a middle-order batsman or an all-rounder, I am a tailender. Middle-order batters and all-rounders play at 4-5 but I bat at 7-8 so I consider myself as an tailender" Iftikhar Ahmed said in a viral video.

Replying to the video, one fan wrote, “U-19 world cup me khilao chacha ko kaafi young hai abhi,” while another fan wrote “Ham bhi apko tailender hi samajhty hen, apart from the fact that you can't bowl either”.
