The champions of England are accused of breaching 115 regulations of the Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules of the Premier League over the last 14 seasons starting from 2009-10 onwards. After the charges were made in February of this year, there hasn't been much said by Manchester City or the Premier League, but the Daily Mail has reported that the hearing is set for next year while the verdict is unlikely to be delivered until the end of next season in 2025.
The statements are currently being taken from witnesses about the case ahead of the trial next year. Moreover, when the verdict is delivered for the alleged breaches of FFP rules, appeals are likely to be made too.
We are innocent until guilt is proved: Pep Guardiola
Pep Guardiola, the Manchester City manager, talked about the alleged breaches of the Premier League rules last weekend, stating that the club is innocent until guilt is proven. He was quoted as saying, as per Mirror, “We are innocent until guilt is proved. I know the people want it (City punished). I know I feel it. I will wait and see, and after the sentence has been done we will come here and explain.”
The 52-year-old talked about his future at Manchester City amidst the accusation against the club for breaching the FFP rules and said, “Absolutely, I will not consider my future (if) it depends being here or being in League One. There is more chance to stay if we are in League One than if we were in the Champions League.”
