On Sunday, February 18, the former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary retired from professional cricket after captaining Bengal to a Ranji Trophy win by an innings and 204 runs against Bihar at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The 38-year-old was facilitated by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) in a ceremony for his outstanding achievements in cricket after their big victory.

Manoj Tiwary, also the Sports Minister of Bengal, received a golden bat from the CAB for becoming the fourth batter in the state to score 10,000 runs in First-Class cricket earlier in the Ranji Trophy season. On his immediate thoughts about retirement, Manoj Tiwary said, as per Sportstar, “I am so happy to retire on my favourite ground. My only regret will be not winning the Ranji Trophy for Bengal.”

The 38-year-old also sent out a post on his official X account about his retirement from professional cricket, which read, “One last time… Wanna miss you cricket! Thanks to all my fans for allowing me to entertain you… Goodbye to the 22 yards…”.

Notably, Manoj Tiwary had announced his retirement from professional cricket before the start of the new season after taking Bengal to the final of the Ranji Trophy last year. But, the President of CAB, Snehasish Ganguly, requested him to come back and captain Bengal in red-ball cricket for one more year.

Just a day ago, Manoj Tiwary posted about receiving the Guard of Honour from his Bengal teammates and support staff, calling it a “lifetime memory,” that he “will never forget”. He had also thanked the entire Bengal team for the “incredible gesture,” in his final professional match, calling them a family.
