Opening batter Martin Guptill, who was last playing for New Zealand in 2022 has finally announced his retirement from all formats of international cricket. The 38-year-old is among all-time highest run getters for the Black Caps across formats and the highest run getter for the country in the T20Is. He last played an international game for New Zealand in October 2022 and was sidelined by the management for the next couple of years.
Martin Guptill was among the best openers for New Zealand in the white-ball cricket with over 3500 runs in the T20Is and 7000+ runs in the ODI format. He is currently playing for Auckland Aces in the ongoing Super Smash T20 league in New Zealand. “As a young kid it was always my dream to play for New Zealand and I feel incredibly lucky and proud to have played 367 games for my country,” Guptill said while announcing his retirement as quoted by India TV.

Speaking further, Martin Guptill also thanked the New Zealand cricket board fellow cricketers and coaching staff for the constant support throughout his playing career. He also acknowledged his wife Laura and the sacrifices made by her during his career. Guptill has played 47 Tests, 198 ODIs and 122 ODIs in his international career amassing 13643 runs with 23 hundreds in all three formats combined.

I want to say a huge thanks to all my teammates and coaching staff over the years, in particular Mark O’Donnell who has coached me since the Under 19 level and been a source of ongoing support and wisdom over my career. A special thanks must also go to my manager Leanne McGoldrick - all of the work behind the scenes never went unnoticed and I’ll be forever appreciative of all your support," Martin Guptill said.
"To my wife Laura and our beautiful children Harley and Teddy – thank-you. Thank you Laura for the sacrifices you have made for me and our family. You’ve been my biggest supporter, my rock and my counsel through all of the ups and downs that come with the game. I am eternally grateful.
