Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, made a startling remark that maybe another team deserves to win the Premier League after his team succumbed to their fourth straight defeat for the first-time during his managerial tenure. Brighton got the better of Manchester City 2-1 in a late comeback at the Amex Stadium, to jump into the top four of the Premier League standings, just four points behind the defending champions in second place.

Manchester City, who have won six of the last seven Premier League titles, are now five points behind Liverpool, who lead the standings with just one defeat in 11 games. In the last couple of weeks, Manchester City have been ousted from the EFL Cup by Tottenham before losing to Sporting in the UEFA Champions League, apart from Premier League defeats against Bournemouth and Brighton in subsequent weekends, but coincidentally, all these losses have come away from home.

Maybe after seven years winning six Premier Leagues, maybe one year another team deserve it: Pep Guardiola

While talking to the BBC Match of the Day after losing 1-2 to Brighton, Pep Guardiola conceded the Premier League and said, “We have to try and win games again. Four [defeats] in a row. We have to change things quick. The schedule becomes tough but it [winning games] is going to happen when the players come back. Maybe after seven years winning six Premier Leagues, maybe one year another team deserve it.”

It is important to note that Manchester City have been hampered severely by injuries to few of their key players, including names like Ruben Dias, John Stones, Jeremy Doku, Jack Grealish, Rodri, and Oscar Bobb, while the likes of Nathan Ake and Manuel Akanji were just fit enough to be on the bench against Brighton. This led to Pep Guardiola giving the first start in the Premier League to the teenage defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey in the back four.

Following the international break, Manchester City have a tough round of games in the Premier League against Tottenham, Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace, Manchester United, and Aston Villa ahead of Christmas.
