During the Inside Out show on JioCinema, Virat Kohli hinted at the possibility of MS Dhoni’s IPL retirement in the build-up to the big clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings. The 35-year-old remarked that he could be playing for the last time with MS Dhoni amidst the uncertain future of the former CSK captain in the IPL.
The all-important match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings on Saturday, May 18, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium is set to decide the fourth and the final team who will make the IPL 2024 playoffs. For CSK, a win will be enough to move into the knockout stage of the tournament, but RCB will be needing to defeat them with a decent margin to achieve the same feat.
Virat Kohli spoke to JioCinema on the Inside Out show about MS Dhoni, under whom he started his international career and said, as per India Today, “For fans to see him (MS Dhoni) play in any stadium in India is a big thing. Me & him playing again, maybe for the last time, you never know – that is a special thing. We have had some great memories, some great partnerships for India, it’s a great occasion for fans to see us together.”
Apart from exploring the possibility of MS Dhoni playing his last match in the IPL later today, Virat Kohli also hailed him for his ability to finish matches in franchise and international cricket. He remarked, “People used to say the same about Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni). ‘Why is he taking the game to 20th over or 50th over.’ But how many matches did he finish for India!”
“He’s (MS Dhoni) probably the only person who knows what he’s doing! And he’s finishing the game from there. For me, that’s muscle memory. He knows if he takes the match till the last over, he’ll win the game,” added Virat Kohli.
