The former Belgian star Eden Hazard spoke at length about his footballing career in an interview, remarking that Lionel Messi is the only player better than him. The 33-year-old also stated that while Cristiano Ronaldo is a “bigger player” than him, but still, he isn’t “better” than him in terms of pure football.

Eden Hazard announced his retirement from football last year at the age of 32 years old on the social media platform X. The Belgian had left Real Madrid last summer to become a free agent, and just a few months later, he sent out a post to confirm his retirement and said, “You must listen to yourself and say stop at the right time.”

During his recent interview with L’Equipe, Eden Hazard discussed how he compared with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as a footballer. He said, “Lionel Messi is perhaps the only player who is better than me. I loved watching him when he was at Barcelona. I didn't like watching him much afterward, but he is the best in history. It is impossible to take the ball away from him.”

“Cristiano Ronaldo is a bigger player than me, but in terms of pure football, I don't think he's better than me. Neymar, maybe,” the 33-year-old added.

When Eden Hazard was asked about whether he would liked to have Cristiano Ronaldo’s mentality during his footballing career, he remarked, “No. It wouldn't have been me. After training, soaking in the cold bath for an hour, no. Leave me alone, with my friends, we go home, play cards, have a beer. I play for two hours with my friends. Children in the garden. It was my recovery."

He added, "If I had been like Cristiano, I would have been burned out.”
