After the Irishman Conor McGregor claimed on new year’s eve that he will headline the International Fight Week in Las Vegas on June 29 with Michael Chandler, the American insisted that he hasn’t signed a contract for it. As per the reports, the International Fight Week is set to culminate with the UFC 302, their sixth PPV event of the year.

The buildup to the potential fight between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler has been a long one, starting with them coaching opposite teams on the 31st season of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series last year. But, despite that, the UFC never announced that two of their top performers are going to go head-to-head inside the octagon.

In his recent interview with ESPN, Michael Chandler discussed where he stands as far as the potential Conor McGregor fight goes. He was quoted as saying, “We all know it's never 100 percent officially confirmed until we actually step in the Octagon, but obviously my team has been in touch with the UFC. June 29 is what I'm preparing for. I'm leaving my family (at home in Nashville) to head down to Florida to get into fight camp - the fight camp that has been looming now for a year.”

The former three-time Bellator lightweight champion added, “I have 100 per cent confidence that I’m fighting Conor McGregor on 29 June. 29 June, we take this dude’s head off. With that being said, it’s a crazy sport. Injuries and sicknesses happen. The fight isn’t actually happening until both of us are in the cage. One thing I will give (McGregor0 credit for, Go back, his entire career, when he says he’s going to be at a fight, has he ever pulled out of a fight?”

Moreover, Conor McGregor, who has been on a recovery mode since breaking his leg in his last UFC fight against Dustin Poirier in 2021, stated that he and Michael Chandler would fight at 185 pounds, which is 30 pounds more than what the American has competed at since 2011. In response, Michael Chandler remarked, “In his mind, he can't fight at 170 (pounds), because I called him out at 170.
