Mikel Arteta , a former Spain international, signed a new contract with  Arsenal , extending his stay with a club for three more years until 2027. He joined the team in 2019 and his first contract lasted for five years. During Arteta’s first stint as Arsenal manager, the Gunners won the FA Cup at the end of the 2019-20 season and then managed to qualify for the Champions League twice. Last year, the team finished as runners-up in the Premier League.

Apart from this, the team recorded most number of wins (28), most goals (91), finishing with the highest win percentage (67.3). In February this year, the 42-year-old won the Premier League Manager of the Month, hinting his extension with the club. 

After Arteta signed the new contract, Co-Chairperson of the club Josh Kroenke said, “We’re delighted to have extended Mikel’s contract. Mikel is a dynamic and passionate manager, who is relentless in the pursuit of excellence. He has a deep understanding of Arsenal’s values, and since joining us as Head Coach in December 2019, he has taken the team to another level in an Arsenal way.”

Arsenal’s Sporting Director Edu Gaspar, who is also a former Brazil international, expressed his delight after Arteta signed the new contract with the Gunners. Notably, Arteta’s signing the contract has come at a time when the London Derby, that is Arsenal versus Tottenham Hotspur is around the corner. Arteta has also been in the transfer market, bringing players such as Raheem Sterling, Mikel Merino, and Riccardo Calafiori into their ranks.
