Mohammed Shami, the Indian fast bowler, has shared his disappointment with Mitchell Marsh resting his feet on the ODI World Cup trophy after Australia defeated India by six wickets to win the final on Sunday, November 19. At the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, in front of a big crowd away from home, the Australians achieved their sixth ODI World Cup title at the expense of the hosts India.
The CWC 2023 campaign of the Indian cricket team was highlighted by Mohammed Shami, who picked up the most wickets in the flagship tournament, scalping 24 dismissals in just seven innings at an average of 10.70. He registered the best figures for an Indian bowler in ODI cricket, taking 57/7 against New Zealand in the semi-final, which was played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Speaking to the reporters on Thursday, November 23, Mohammed Shami talked about the picture of Mitchell Marsh, in which he had his feet on the CWC trophy. He was quoted as saying, “I am hurt. The trophy for which all the teams in the world fights, the trophy which you want to lift over your head, keeping a foot on that trophy did not make me happy.”
Moreover, in another interview with PUMA India, the Indian fast bowler shared his experience about sitting out the first four matches of the ODI World Cup 2023 before Hardik Pandya’s injury forced the team management to find a place for him in the playing XI. He said, “When you sit out for four matches, you need to be mentally strong. Sometimes you are under pressure but when you see the team performing well and going in a good direction, it gives you satisfaction. ”
