Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has finally made his comeback in professional cricket after almost one year during the ongoing Ranji Trophy match between Bengal and Madhya Pradesh at Holkar Stadium in Indore. Playing his comeback game, the right-arm pacer scalped four wickets as Bengal bowled Madhya Pradesh out for 167 taking a lead of 61 runs in the first innings. 

Before the ongoing match, Mohammed Shami was last seen playing during the ODI World Cup final between India and Australia in Ahmedabad on November 19, 2023. After that, the fast bowler sustained an ankle injury ahead of IPL 2024 and went to National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for rehabilitation. Since then, Shami kept working hard and shared regular updates of his recovery, before he was added into Bengal’s squad for the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25. 

Mohammed Shami register figures of 4/54 in comeback match

Despite playing professional cricket after an year, Mohammed Shami looked in his old form and ended up registering figures of 4/54 in his spell 19 overs on day two of the match against Madhya Pradesh (MP). Along with him, Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal and Mohammed Kaif scalped 2 wickets each, while Rohit Kumar put one in his bag as MP were bowled out for 167 runs in the first innings. 

Subhranshu Senapati was the top scorer for Madhya Pradesh with a knock of 47 runs off 121 balls along with six boundaries, while Rajat Patidar also contributed with 41(59) hitting eight boundaries. Coming to bat after taking a lead of 61 runs in the first innings, Bengal lost their first wicket at the score of 14 runs in the second innings with Shuvam Dey (4 off 8) getting dismissed by Aryan Pandey. Currently, Sudip Kumar Gharami and Sudip Chatterjee are still at the crease taking the innings forward on day two.
