Star Indian pacer  Mohammed Shami  is all set to make his comeback in red-ball cricket after recovering from an injury which he sustained at the ODI World Cup in November 2023 in India. While the Indian spearhead was set to return earlier, but sudden swelling in his knees following the surgery in February this year, led him to rejoin the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for rehabilitation.

However, Shami has now regained complete fitness and is set to feature in the upcoming clash of the domestic Indian tournament, where Bengal will take on Madhya Pradesh in Indore from Wednesday, November 13. 

Shami to return to red-ball cricket in Ranji Trophy

Taking to social media, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) on Tuesday, November 12 confirmed the Indian pacer’s return to competitive cricket. “Shami, who has been out of competitive action since India’s ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad last November, will spearhead the Bengal pace bowling attack against Madhya Pradesh,” a statement from Cricket Association of Bengal read. The release further informed that the Indian pacer will join the side later on Tuesday ahead of their match, scheduled for Wednesday. 

Furthermore, inclusion of Shami in the side has come as a boost for the Indian cricket team as they will look for him to join the side for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia. Earlier in a report making rounds, it was stated that Shami could join the side down under if he proves his fitness in domestic tournaments. "A call on Mohammed Shami's inclusion will be taken after the pacer proves his fitness in the Ranji Trophy," the Indian Express report had claimed.
