Former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni found himself in hot waters in his home town of Ranchi in Jharkhand. The former wicketkeeper-batter might receive a legal notice by the Jharkhand State Housing Board. Not only this, but the board has also launched an investigation into allegations that the 2011 World Cup winning captain used his residence in Harmu Housing Colony for illegal commercial purposes. Notably, the Ranchi boy was allotted five katah of land in the upscale Harmu Housing Colony by the Jharkhand government through a gift.
The cricketer earlier resided in Mecon Colony, but went on to build a luxurious home on the plot before he moved to his farmhouse on the outskirts of Ranchi. According to the chairman of the housing board, Sanjay Lal Paswan, "No notices have been issued yet, but notices have been issued to around 200-300 people who were allotted residential plots and are using them for commercial purposes. We are aware that this issue has come to our attention, and necessary steps are being taken.”
He told TOI, “We have received complaints and instructed officials to investigate. If the allegations are proven, a notice will be issued to Dhoni.”
MS Dhoni made his international debut 20 years ago
Notably, on December 23, 2024, MS Dhoni completed his 20 years since international debut in an ODI against Bangladesh. Dhoni, who went on to become one of the most successful captains in the history of the sport, could play only one ball as he was run out for zero. However, it was just a start, and he remains the only captain in history to have won all three ICC trophies: the T20 World Cup in 2007, ODI World Cup in 2011 and Champions Trophy in 2013.
Not only this, but under his leadership, Chennai Super Kings won the Indian Premier League five times, and became the most-successful franchise in the cash-rich league. The cricketer pulled down curtains on his glorious international career on August 15, 2020.
