NBA slapped a $100k fine on Denver Nuggets guard Jamal Murray during Monday’s Game 2 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. The incident took place in the late second quarter of the game that saw the Timberwolves extending their win tally to 2-0. The loss frustrated Murray, and he was vocal towards the referees throughout the first half. Right before halftime, Murray tossed a towel and a heat pack onto the court.
The pack slid across the floor and narrowly avoided Karl-Anthony Towns’ feet as he tried a layup. The incident brought the game to a brief halt and officials removed the object and the public-address announcer admonished the crowd not to throw any objects.
Jamal Murray receives $100k fine for throwing heat pack onto floor
The NBA has announced that it won’t suspend Murray but has slapped a $100k fine on the 27-year-old. After the game, head coach Michael Malone spoke about the incident and said that he wasn’t aware of it. Malone said, "I have not been aware of that, so I really can't comment. If that is the case, we'll see what happens, but I wasn't aware of that. I knew a heating pack was on the floor but it was not in my field of vision."
The incident happened just two months after Rudy Gobert of the Timberwolves received a fine of $100k for making a gesture towards the referees. Speaking of Murray’s performance, in Game 1, he went scoreless in the first half and could only come up with 17 points in the second half. In Game 2, Murray finished with eight points on 3-of-18 shooting.
