Draymond Green, the Golden State Warriors forward, has been suspended for five games without pay by the NBA after he had escalated an on-court altercation involving Rudy Gobert, the Minnesota Timberwolves center. The 33-year-old was spotted on camera, forcibly grabbing his opponent around the neck area in “an unsportsmanlike and dangerous manner,” which led to his suspension, the NBA official Joe Dumars announced.

The incident involving  Draymond Green and Rudy Gobert  happened during the first quarter of the Minnesota Timberwolves’ win against the Golden State Warriors by 104-101 at the Chase Center. It all started when Klay Thompson of the Warriors got himself tangled with Jaden McDaniels of the Timberwolves, grabbing and pulling each other by their jerseys halfway across the court.

This led to Gobert entering the scene to separate the two, but then all of a sudden, Green wrapped him in a chokehold as other players tried to get them separated. Shortly afterward, Klay Thompson and Jaden McDaniels were given a technical foul and ejected, while Draymond Green received a Flagrant Foul 2 and was ejected.

Apart from the five-game suspension for Green, which will cost him $769,970, the likes of Thompson, McDaniels, and Gobert were splashed with a hefty fine as well. The excerpts of the statement from the NBA read, “Warriors guard Klay Thompson and Timberwolves forward Jaden McDaniels and center Rudy Gobert have each been fined $25,000 for their roles in the incident.”

They further stated that the lengthy suspension “is based in part on Green’s history of unsportsmanlike acts.” The five-game suspension for Draymond Green is set to begin on Thursday, November 16, with a home fixture for the Golden State Warriors against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
