The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday, April 30 announced India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 . While Rohit Sharma was named as the skipper of the side, Hardik Pandya will shoulder the responsibility for the marquee event, set to be played in June in West Indies and the USA.
Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah were some of the oblivious picks, there were a few absentees, one of the main being KL Rahul. The omission of wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul, who has been a key member in the Indian colours, stirred a wave of discontent among netizens.
However, the reason behind KL Rahul’s omission is likely to be addressed in the press conference, scheduled to be hosted at the BCCI’s headquarters on Thursday, May 2 with Chief Selector and captain Rohit Sharma in attendance. Rahul had suffered a hamstring injury in IPL 2023 and had undergone a surgery in May, last year. However, he recovered in time for the ODI World Cup 2023, but hasn’t featured in the T20I format for the national side.
On the other hand, the BCCI have gone with two specialist wicketkeeper-batters in Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant in their 15-member squad. Seeing the exclusion of KL Rahul, fans left no stone unturned as they flooded social media with memes and posts.

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) also took to social media sharing their support with KL Rahul. “Our No.1 since Day Zero,” LSG captioned a post on X.
Moreover, the KL Rahul-led side will take on Mumbai Indians at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday, April 30.
