Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, trolled his teammate Kuldeep Yadav for his batting skills after the wrist spinner spoke about contributing runs with the bat for the national team. The 37-year-old remarked that he has never seen Kuldeep Yadav bat in ODIs as captain after presenting him a cap for making it to the ICC’s ODI team of the year.
During a video from the ICC in the build-up to the T20 World Cup 2024, Rohit Sharma took the opportunity to give the ODI team of the year cap to Kuldeep Yadav, calling him a “real asset” for India. In his short speech, the Indian spin wizard remarked that he had a great season last year with bat and the ball.
Never seen him bat: Rohit Sharma’s hilarious take on Kuldeep Yadav’s batting skills
After hearing the comment from Kuldeep Yadav on his batting, Rohit Sharma was shocked for a second before he pulled his leg by asking him about when he contributed runs to the Indian cause. When Yadav replied “Test series,” Sharma quipped, “This is for ODI, I was the captain of this team. I’ve never seen him bat. So, I don’t know what is he talking about?”
Kuldeep Yadav has made some decent contributions with the bat for India in Test cricket, most recently during the fourth Test of the series against England this past February. He put together a valuable knock of 28 off 131, putting together a valuable stand with Dhruv Jurel, which was crucial for the hosts to take a 3-1 series lead after winning at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi.
Moreover, in his ODI career, Kuldeep Yadav has mediocre batting returns, scoring just 190 in 37 innings at an average of 10 and a strike-rate of 56.21.
Both Rohit Sharma and Kuldeep Yadav are incredibly important to India’s chances of winning their first ICC trophy in more than a decade next month. They will be playing against Ireland, Pakistan, the USA, and Canada as part of Group A in the T20 World Cup 2024.
