Indian cricketing legend Kapil Dev shared a piece of advice for the Indian team while raising concerns about the management’s decision to not open with star bowler Jasprit Bumrah. The Men in in Blue are currently participating in the T20 World Cup 2024 being organised in the USA and West Indies. The 2007 T20 champions didn’t give the new ball to pacer Bumrah in both their matches against Ireland and Pakistan.

After former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar’s recent criticism to the team, the 1983 World Cup winner also shared his thoughts and advised Rohit Sharma and Co. to play like a T20 tournament and not a Test match. Bumrah, who won the Player of the Match in both the matches did not start the bowling attack.

Not a Test match, this is T20: Dev gives advice to Indian team

Dev, fondly known as Haryana Hurrricane, said that Bumrah needs to open the bowling attack instead of coming at later stage. Dev told ABP News, “He needs to bowl the first over, he is a wicket-taking bowler. If you make him bowl the fifth or sixth bowler, the game can slip out of your hands. This is not a Test match. This is T20. The quicker you take wickets, the more pressure it puts on the opposition.”

The 65-year-old heaped praise on Bumrah and said, “It is better to have a positive mindset. If Bumrah opens the bowling and picks up a couple of wickets, life becomes easier for the other bowlers as well.” Notably, in their next group-stage match in the tournament, team India will lock horns with co-hosts and World Cup debutants on June 12, New York.
